Rationale of the Seminar

Private veterinarians and veterinary para-professionals are a bridge between the State VS and the farmers: they improve animal health by providing medical services and have a vital role to play in the effective surveillance and control of animal diseases and zoonoses. The OIE standards and guidelines should be applied in all countries to take the best advantage of all professionals, whether from the public or private sectors to improve VS .

Specific objectives

• to explain the importance of involving the private sector in the VS so as to foster their participation in priority animal health and public health activities,
• to share practical experiences on the implication of those professionals in the delivery of animal health and other services,
• to acquaint on OIE standards and guidelines relating to veterinarians, veterinary para-professionals and veterinary statutory body.
