Simulation exercise: Avian Influenza in Honduras

Doctor José Heriberto Amador Salinas, Director General of Animal Health, National Service for Agriculture and Livestock (SENASA) of Honduras, informed the OIE that a regional simulation exercise on avian influenza is taking place from 2 to 6 May, 2011 in the city of Comayagua, Comayagua county, Honduras.

The aim of this simulation exercise, in which official veterinaries from Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Nicaragua and El Salvador are participating, is to:

  • strengthen early detection and response capability of the veterinary services of the region as well as train the official and private veterinary and technical field staff in case of a possible avian influenza outbreak,
  • evaluate the emergency teams’ interventions facing the occurrence of an outbreak of this disease.
