Simulation exercise: Foot and mouth disease in Peru

Dr Janios Miguel Quevedo Valle, Director General of Animal Health, National Agrarian Health Service (SENASA), Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation of Peru, informed the OIE that three regional field simulation exercises on foot and mouth disease will take place in Peru, at the following dates and places:

  • from 22 to 25 August 2016 in the town of Trujilloa, La Libertad,
  •  from 20 to 22 September 2016 in the town of Huancavelica,
  • from 18 to 20 October 2016 in the town of Ica.

The objective of these simulation exercises denominated “Simulation of emergency preparedness during an occurrence of foot and mouth disease” is to strengthen management capacities of the adequate and efficient response to a foot and mouth disease occurrence with a view to reducing the economic health impacts that could be generated from the introduction of the virus.

These simulation exercises are directed to professionals of the public and private services.
