Simulation exercise: Foot and mouth disease in Turkey

Dr Nihat Pakdil, Deputy Undersecretary, Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock of Turkey, informed the OIE that joint real-scale simulation exercises on foot and mouth disease (FMD) will take place in the Province of Izmir from 12 to 16 February 2018 and in the Province of Edirne (Thrace) from 26 February to 2 March 2018.

The overall aim of this exercise is to maintain the response skills of the Veterinary Services. These simulation exercises will include table-top and field exercises.

The specific objectives are to:

  • test the Foot and Mouth Contingency Plan and train staff on its implementation;
  • test operational response arrangements;
  • examine the liaison and interdependencies between the key operational partners;
  • consider the impact of the disease.
