This guide to the Terrestrial Animal Health Code is divided into 4 sections (general provisions, recommendations applicable to specific diseases, appendices and model international veterinary certificates) aimed at assisting the Veterinary Administrations of the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) member countries. The following subjects are discussed in the chapters: general definitions; evaluation of veterinary services; guidelines for the evaluation of veterinary services; zoning and compartmentalization; criteria for listing diseases; risk analysis; multiple species diseases; cattle diseases; sheep and goat diseases; equine diseases; swine diseases; avian diseases, lagomorph diseases; bee diseases; diseases transmissible from non-human primates; and Salmonella spp. in poultry. Appendices on diagnostic tests for international trade purposes, surveillance of specific diseases (rinderpest, contagious bovine pleuropneumonia, foot and mouth disease, bovine spongiform encephalopathy and avian influenza and classical swine fever), bovine and small ruminant semen, collection and processing of embryos/ova, biosecurity in establishments, animal welfare, ante- and postmortem inspections, identification and traceability of live animals, disposal of dead animals, guidelines for inactivation of pathogens and vectors, antimicrobial resistance and animal production food safety are included.
