Simulation exercise: Foot and mouth disease in Australia

Dr Mark Schipp, Chief Veterinary Officer, Department of Agriculture and Water Resources, Canberra, Australia, has informed the OIE that a desk-top discussion exercise, Exercise Diomedes, will take place in the state of Victoria on 23 March 2016.

Exercise Diomedes will be based on a foot and mouth disease scenario and will involve the Victorian Department of Economic Development, Jobs, Transport and Resources (DEDJTR) Executive Board. Other invitees will include ministerial staff, senior DEDJTR staff with relevant responsibilities, and heads of a range of external agencies/departments.

The aim of the discussion exercise is to improve and assess emergency animal disease preparedness.

It will be held at the State Biosecurity Operations Centre, located at the DEDJTR Attwood site.
