of information: Every month, OIE Member Countries provide the OIE
with monthly reports on their animal health status with regards to List
A diseases. This information is entered into the OIE database and
made accessible to the users through its Web interface 'Handistatus
II'.
To have access to the monthly disease information for the current year
from Handistatus II, select a country and a List
A disease, then click on the heading 'Monthly Animal Disease Status
(List A)'.

information
Handistatus

Source
of information: Every year, the Veterinary Services of the OIE,
the FAO and the WHO Member Countries submit their responses to an annual
questionnaire from the OIE. This questionnaire contains information
on the OIE's List A and
B diseases as well as the FAO List C diseases. It also contains
data on zoonotic diseases and new List A disease outbreaks per month
for that year. The questionnaire also includes information on veterinary
personnel.
Under the heading 'Annual animal disease status' in Handistatus II,
data on List A, B and C diseases is available, including information
on the animal species affected and any prophylactic and control measures
used.
There are two ways to access annual animal health status information
in Handistatus II:
- select
a region or country, and then select the disease of choice, or
- select
the country of choice (with this selection, information on all animal
diseases in this country will be available).
Then,
choose one of the two categories under the heading 'Annual animal disease
status'.
Monthly information on the incidence of new List
A disease outbreaks is also requested in the annual questionnaire.
To access this type of information, select a region and then select
a List A disease. Then, choose the available category 'for a region
and a disease' under the heading 'Monthly animal disease status (List
A)'. A second way to access this information is to select a country
and a List A disease, and then look under the heading 'Monthly animal
disease status (List A)/ for a country and a disease'.
The table dedicated to zoonoses (animal diseases transmissible to humans)
can be accessed under the heading 'Zoonoses (human cases)'. The user
must select a zoonotic disease from "Disease" list.
Information on the number of veterinarians and technical personnel in
each country can be accessed under the heading 'Veterinary Personnel'.
The region and/or country must first be specified.
World
Animal Health
The annual
data contained in Handistatus
II is also available in a hardcopy publication entitled World
Animal Health. In addition to the data found in Handistatus II,
this publication includes written reports from countries that wish to
provide more details on their animal health status and on new activities
of their Veterinary Services. The reports for these countries for the
year 2002 can be accessed in pdf format under the heading "World
Animal Health".
Multiannual information
Animal
health status information for multiple years is available starting from
1996. To access disease information for multiple years, select a country
or a region AND a disease, and click on the heading 'Multiannual animal
disease status'.
