Description of affected population:

- outbreak in Osijecko-baranjska: on 26 November 2006, in a small family-run farm consisting of 8 pigs (7 fattening pigs and 1 sow), the veterinarian performed a clinical examination during which the following signs were detected: fever, diarrhoea and inappetence, coughing and ear cyanosis.

- outbreak in Sisacko-moslavacka: between 15-17 November 2006, in a farm consisting of 155 female pigs and 5 boars, a few pigs showed clinical signs of diarrhoea and inappetence. On 28 November 2006, 3 female pigs died and samples were taken and sent to the Croatian Veterinary Institute for analysis. On 29 November 2006, clinical examination determined the following signs of the disease: inappetence (4 pigs), apathy (44 pigs), body temperature over 40șC (8 pigs), diarrhoea (6 pigs), constipation (8 pigs), signs of central nervous system (CNS) disorders (6 pigs), oestrous disorders (20 female pigs).

Other details/comments: the epidemiological investigation found a connection between the outbreak in Sisacko-moslavacka and the classical swine fever-positive holding in the village of Sela in the same county (see Disease Information, 19 [44], 763, dated 2 November 2006). Further steps will be taken to try to determine other possible sources of infection.
