More than 800 participants representing the 180 OIE Member Countries and numerous international, intergovernmental, regional and national organisations are expected at the end of May for the 83rd General Session of the World Organisation for Animal Health.

This annual event will be the occasion to review the current global landscape with regard to animal diseases, including zoonoses and to adopt new OIE intergovernmental standards on animal health and welfare applicable to OIE Member Countries.

Numerous exchanges will take place during the week’s proceedings, notably on the animal disease events that occurred in 2014, such as the ongoing global avian influenza epizootic, but also on cross‑cutting issues such as antimicrobial resistance.

The Delegates will also be holding elections for all of the Organisation’s governance positions.
