OFFICIAL DISEASE STATUS > CONTAGIOUS BOVINE PLEUROPNEUMONIA

Contagious bovine pleuropneumonia (CBPP) is a contagious mycoplasmal disease of cattle. CBPP is widespread in sub-Saharan Africa and has a high risk of causing severe economic loss.

The Terrestrial Animal Health Code (Chapter 11.7.) provides the requirements that need to be fulfilled by a Member Country to be included in the list of CBPP free Member Countries. A questionnaire was developed in line with Chapter 11.7. to assist Member Countries in the preparation and compilation of dossiers for evaluation by the Scientific Commission for Animal Diseases. Member Countries seeking official recognition of CBPP free status must comply with the requirements laid out in Chapter 11.7. of the Terrestrial Code and submit to the OIE the information requested by the questionnaire contained in Article 1.6.7.

The current chapter on CBPP also allows Member Countries to apply for the endorsement by the OIE of their national control programme for CBPP. A specific questionnaire was developed to give Member Countries the tools to apply for the endorsement of their national programme and to progressively move towards freedom from CBPP. When requesting the endorsement of an official control programme for CBPP, a Member Country must comply with the requirements laid out in Article 11.7.18 of the Terrestrial Code and submit to the OIE the information requested by the questionnaire contained in Article 1.6.13.

The list of Member Countries with a CBPP free status officially recognised by the OIE is available on the OIE website, whereas the first list of Member Countries with an OIE endorsed official control programme for CBPP will be available after May 20135.
