OFFICIAL DISEASE STATUS > PESTE DES PETITS RUMINANTS (PPR)

Peste des petits ruminants (PPR) is a viral disease of goats and sheep, and is one of the most economically important diseases in small ruminants.

The Terrestrial Animal Health Code (Chapter 14.7.) provides the requirements that need to be fulfilled by a Member Country to be included in the list of PPR free Member Countries. A questionnaire was developed in line with Chapter 14.7. to assist Member Countries in the preparation and compilation of dossiers for evaluation by the Scientific Commission for Animal Diseases. Member Countries seeking official recognition of PPR free status must comply with the requirements laid out in Chapter 14.7. of the Terrestrial Code and submit to the OIE the information requested by the questionnaire contained in Article 1.6.9.

The current Chapter on PPR also allows Member Countries to apply for the endorsement by the OIE of their national control programme for PPR. A specific questionnaire was developed to give Member Countries the tools to apply for the endorsement of their national programme and to progressively move towards freedom from PPR. When requesting the endorsement of an official control programme for PPR, a Member Country must comply with the requirements laid out in Article 14.7.34 of the Terrestrial Code and submit to the OIE the information requested by the questionnaire contained in Article 1.6.12.

The list of Member Countries with a PPR free status officially recognised by the OIE is available on the OIE website, whereas a first list of Member Countries having their official control programme for PPR endorsed by the OIE will be available on the website, as soon as programmes are endorsed.
