Paris, 5 March 2013 – The final stage of the “Improved Animal Welfare Programme” (IAWP) pilot programme in Indonesia was held on 30th to 31st January 2013 in Bogor, Indonesia. This programme is supported by the government of Indonesia and Australia.
During the Veterinary Education Establishments (VEE) workshop, the newly trained Indonesian trainers had the opportunity to demonstrate their expertise and lecturing skills in front of an audience comprising 60 academics from ten veterinary faculties, and central government officials.
The “Improved Animal Welfare Programme” (IAWP) aims to improve understanding of OIE animal welfare standards and ease their implementation in Member Countries.
The workshop emphasised the importance of OIE animal welfare standards on animal transport and slaughter, as well as the necessity for training of veterinarians operating in the modern slaughtering industry. The workshop and national newly trained trainers received very positive feedback from all attendees.
The next stage of the OIE “Improved Animal Welfare Programme” is forthcoming in the Philippines and Middle East countries.
Last October, the OIE announced the launch of the first training of trainers session of the OIE “Improved Animal Welfare Programme” (IAWP): http://www.oie.int/en/for-the-media/press-releases/detail/article/first-session-of-the-oie-improved-animal-welfare-programme/
