Epidemiological comments After the outbreak dated 27 March 2009, local veterinary authority monitored a total of 25 farms within a 3-km-radius around the index farm. Cleaning and disinfection was completed under direct supervision of the local veterinary authority on 28 March 2009.
Oral swab and pig hoof samples collected from the index farm on 28 March 2009 were subjected to virus isolation test. After two passages of inoculation, a negative result was obtained on 9 April 2009.
Oral swab samples collected again from the index farm on 28 April 2009 were subjected to RT-PCR and virus isolation; negative results were obtained respectively on 30 April and 1 May 2009.
Clinical surveillance was conducted from 28 March to 6 May 2009. No other cases in this region have been found.
The movement control has been released on the index farm by the local veterinary authority on 6 May 2009.
The serotype of this outbreak was confirmed as O type on 12 June 2009.
