Epidemiological comments |
On 27 December 2016, a suspicion of avian influenza in backyard poultry was reported to the Veterinary and Food Safety Directorate. Fifteen chickens and one turkey were found dead. The animals showed clinical signs of the disease. Samples were taken and sent to the Croatian Veterinary Institute - Poultry Centre (Croatian Reference Laboratory) in Zagreb. Avian influenza subtype H5N8 was detected in the pooled samples on 29 December 2016.
According to the preliminary laboratory results, on 30 December 2016 all susceptible species from the affected holding as well as animals in the affected area were killed.
On 3 January 2017, highly pathogenic avian influenza subtype H5N8 was confirmed.
Implementation of the disease control measures according to the Directive 2005/94/EC is ongoing. |
