Epidemiological comments Update 22.10.2018: On Friday 12 October 2018 the national reference laboratory confirmed BTV-8 by RT-qPCR in one ram from a holding with 50 sheep in Schupfart in the Canton of Aargau, close to the German border. The ram had inflamed muquous membrane(Conjunctivitis), showed Ataxia and other neurologic symptoms. lt was euthanized. The holding was placed under restriction and a part of the sheep living in close contact with the ram was subject to blood sampling. All animals tested revealed negative for presence of virus genome. Vaccination and treatment with insecticides has been performed.
