Affected population a puppy was imported to Finland from India on 4 November by a private owner (pet dog). The puppy was vaccinated against rabies less than 30 days before the import, but the vaccination date was not entered correctly into the official certificate and no antibody test was made. The puppy was under control of veterinary officers since 5 November due to deficiencies in the health certificates. The puppy got sick on 8 November with fever and apathy and it was euthanised on 9 November and sent to the Finnish Food Safety Authority (Evira) for pathology, but was also checked for rabies. The FA test was positive on 12 November and RT-PCR on 13 November. The PCR was sequenced on 14 November and found to be 98% identical with Indian strains. At that time it was confirmed positive by Evira. The virus isolation results will be available later. So far, no animal contacts have been identified.
