Affected population The first suspicion of the disease occurred following mortality in one of the six sheds in the duck farm. Samples were sent to the Central Veterinary Laboratory, Algete, the national reference laboratory, for confirmation and pathogenicity identification. On 23 February, a highly pathogenic H5N8 strain was confirmed.
