Simulation exercise: Emerging disease in Croatia

Dr Sanja Separović, Director and Chief Veterinary Officer, Veterinary Directorate of the Croatian Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development, Zagreb, informed the OIE that a table-top simulation exercise on an emerging vector borne zoonotic disease is taking place in Zagreb, Croatia, from 8 to 9 June 2011.

The aim of this simulation exercise, prepared in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and Health Protection Agency of the United Kingdom, is to enhance the preparedness and capacity of Croatia to face potential outbreaks of an emerging vector borne zoonotic disease. Representatives of veterinary and public health service, army, police, food industry, service in charge of environment protection and other stakeholders will practice implementation of measures in case of an outbreak of this latter emerging disease.
