Simulation exercise: Foot and mouth disease in Brazil

Dr Geraldo Marcos De Moraes, Director of the Department of Animal Health, Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply of Brazil, informed the OIE that a table-top and field simulation exercise on a foot and mouth disease emergency will take place inVitória, Espirito Santo, from 26 to 30 August 2019.

The objective of the exercise is to practice and test the early response capacity as well as the management and organisation of the Official Veterinary Services during an investigation about a suspicion of vesicular disease in the FMD free zone where vaccination is practised, following the guidelines of the Contingency Plan for Foot and Mouth Disease.

The simulation exercise will allow the review of theoretical aspects and practical training related to diagnostic, collection of samples, epidemiological investigation, traceability, biosafety as well as procedures of containment and eradication of foot and mouth disease.
