Simulation exercise: Foot and mouth disease in New Zealand

Dr Tony Zohrab, Chief Market Access Officer, Policy and Trade Branch, Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) of New Zealand, informed the OIE that a series of desktop simulation exercises named “Exercise Whakatau Kōrero (Decision making in Māori)” on foot and mouth disease (FMD) will take in Wellington, New Zealand from 4 July to 26 September 2019.

This exercise aims to further develop government arrangements agreed in the national-level plan for Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) Response and Recovery, adopted in December 2018.

Exercise Whakatau Kōrero will be run by Biosecurity New Zealand, as a series of table-top discussions between relevant government agencies, refining and testing the approach agreed in the national-level FMD Plan.
