Simulation exercise: African horse sickness in the Nordic-Baltic countries

Dr Per Starcke Henriksen, Chief Veterinary Officer of the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration, Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, Glostrup, Denmark, informed the OIE that the Nordic-Baltic countries – Denmark, Finland, Estonia, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden – will jointly conduct a simulation exercise on African horse sickness. The exercise is codenamed ‘Pegasus 2017’, and it will take place on 6th September 2017. The main aim is to test the African horse sickness contingency plans in the Nordic-Baltic countries.

The objectives include for all countries to test communication systems established between the veterinary administrations of the Nordic-Baltic countries. In addition, specific objectives have been drawn up by individual countries related to disease surveillance, disease suspicion, disease confirmation and vaccination. In some countries the simulation exercise will include activities on 7th September.
