Simulation exercise: African swine fever in Australia – 2

14 to 16 May

Dr Mark Schipp, Chief Veterinary Officer, Department of Agriculture and Water Resources, Canberra, Australia, informed the OIE that a simulation exercise, Exercise Rapid Strike, will take place in Adelaide, South Australia, from 14 to 16 May 2019. This exercise is a follow on from Exercise Rapid Strike which was conducted on 4 and 8 March 2019.

Exercise Rapid Strike will be run by Biosecurity South Australia and aims to provide strategic insight for government agencies and industry, into African Swine Fever (ASF) and a response operation.

The exercise will be a field exercise to test arrangements to the hypothetical detection of ASF in a commercial piggery in order to improve the ASF preparedness of both government and industry. Simulated activities will include establishment of a control centre and field activities, such as personal decontamination and sample collection, on an infected premise.
