Simulation exercise: African swine fever in Croatia

Dr Sanja Separovi?, Director and Chief Veterinary Officer, Veterinary Directorate of the Croatian Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development, Zagreb, informed the OIE that a table-top simulation exercise on African swine fever (ASF) is taking place in Croatia, from 14 to 15 December 2011.

This exercise has been prepared in collaboration with the European Commission TAIEX*.

The aim of this exercise is to strengthen the awareness of veterinarians and industry representatives on ASF risks, early detection and contingency measures to be implemented in case of ASF outbreak. More specifically, during the simulation ASF legislative framework, facts about ASF (e.g. clinical signs, diagnosis); sampling; surveillance and monitoring strategies; culling and destruction of animals; epidemiological investigation will be covered in details.
