Simulation exercise: Avian influenza in Brazil

Dr Guilherme Henrique Figueiredo Marques, Director of Animal Health Department, Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply of Brazil, informed the OIE that a table-top and field simulation exercise on avian influenza will take place in the municipalities of Serafina and Porto Alegre in the State of Rio Grande do Sul, in Brazil, from 16 to 27 March 2015.

The global aim of this simulation exercise is to maintain emergency preparedness for the Official Veterinary Services and allow their veterinarians to put in practice the knowledge acquired during the training sessions and the actions foreseen within the national disease contingency plans.

During the exercise, items related to the disease emergency will be reviewed, such as laboratory diagnosis, epidemiological investigation, biosecurity measures, containment barriers as well as cleaning and disinfection processes of affected holdings.
