Simulation exercise: Avian influenza in El Salvador

Dr José David Bolaños Méndez, Chief of Animal Health Division, Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, El Salvador, informed the OIE that a workshop-simulation exercise on avian influenza will take place in his country from 11 to 14 July 2006 with the support of USDA/APHIS⁽¹⁾ and OIRSA⁽²⁾.

The aim of this exercise is to strengthen technical and practical training of the staff of Veterinary Authorities, Public Health, Private veterinarians, etc., to review and evaluate the Emergency Plan for this disease, to test emergency management capacity and to identify the role of all concerned parties.

Up to date, El Salvador is still free of highly pathogenic avian influenza.
