Simulation exercise: Avian influenza in Hong Kong (Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China)

Dr Thomas Sit, Assistant Director (Inspection and Quarantine) Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) of Hong Kong (Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China), informed the OIE that Hong Kong (SARPRC) conducted a simulation exercise on 20 October 2006 to test its preparedness in responding to an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in local poultry farms.

The exercise named "Lily" provided a mimic scenario for all concerned parties to familiarise themselves with the new preparation procedures and additional biosecurity measures for poultry farms. It focused on the overall planning, preparation and implementation of culling operations.
