Simulation exercise: Avian influenza in Senegal

Dr Malick Faye, Director of the Livestock Department, Ministry of Livestock of Senegal, informed the OIE that within the framework of the national contingency plan, the National Committee for prevention and control of avian influenza (CONAGA) conducted on 7 November 2006 a simulation exercise on an outbreak of avian influenza.

The main objective of this exercise was to test the organisation and rapid response capability of the intervention system faced with an eventual introduction of avian influenza in a locality in the country.

This exercise took place in Somone (situated 70 km from Dakar) with the participation of representatives from 17 African countries and was followed by an evaluation workshop on 8 November 2006.
