Simulation exercise: Avian influenza in Turkey 3

Prof. Dr Irfan Erol, Director General of Food and Control, Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock of Turkey, informed the OIE that a joint real-scale simulation exercise on avian influenza will take place in Bolu Province from 25 to 27 November 2014.

The overall aim of this exercise, in consequence of information relating to HPAI outbreaks in Europe, is to maintain the response skills of the Turkish veterinary services.

The simulation exercise will include table-top and field exercises.

The specific objectives are to:

•  test the Avian Influenza Contingency Plan and train staff on its implementation;
•  test operational response arrangements;
•  examine the liaison and interdependencies between the key operational partners; and
•  consider the impact of the disease as a zoonotic infection.
