Simulation exercise: Biosecurity incident in Australia

25 to 28 March

Dr Mark Schipp, Chief Veterinary Officer, Department of Agriculture and Water Resources, Canberra, Australia, informed the OIE that a simulation exercise, Exercise Crown and Anchor, will take place in Canberra, ACT*, from 25 to 28 March 2019. Exercise Crown and Anchor will enhance the knowledge of response arrangements applied during a biosecurity incident in a Commonwealth-governed location with the potential to spread into an adjoining jurisdiction.

The exercise will be based on two scenarios, detection of Varroa destructor in Jervis Bay and detection of Red Imported Fire Ants at Canberra Airport. The exercise is a discussion exercise only; no operational activities will be undertaken. The exercise will enhance the pool of respondents should Australia need to mount a response in a Commonwealth-governed location.
