Simulation exercise: Classical swine fever and African swine fever in Slovakia

Dr Jozef Bires, Director and Chief Veterinary Officer, State Veterinary and Food Administration, Ministry of Agriculture of the Slovak Republic, Bratislava, informed the OIE that a simulation exercise on Classical swine fever (CSF) and African swine fever (ASF), is taking place in Lu?enec district, Slovakia, on 13 September 2013.

This CSF/ASF simulation exercise will be conducted by the National Centre for Diseases Control of the Slovak Republic in collaboration with the Local Centre for Diseases Control in Lu?enec and the State Veterinary Institute in Zvolen.

The main objective of this exercise is to practice coordinated procedure and cooperation of respective bodies for the eradication of a CSF outbreak and an ASF outbreak as well as to raise awareness and preparedness of the competent authorities and breeders in this area.
