Simulation exercise: Classical swine fever in Australia-2

Dr Gardner Murray, Office of the Chief Veterinary Officer, Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, informed the OIE that a desktop simulation of an outbreak of classical swine fever in domestic and feral pigs, called “Exercise Wild Boar” will be run from 18 to 20 November 2008 in the Northern Territory.

The exercise is a controlled, scenario-driven activity that will take place in a simulated operational environment and will require players to perform a range of tasks related to their identified emergency roles. A mini State Disease Control Headquarters will be established in the Northern Territory and one functional local disease control centre. The exercise will involve about 100 officers from the Northern Territory agriculture department and members of Australia’s rapid response team.

There will be local media activity the week prior to exercise but no actual field activities.
