Simulation exercise: Classical swine fever in Brazil

4 to 6 June - 10 to 14 June

Dr Guilherme Henrique Figueiredo Marques, Director of Animal Health Department, Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply of Brazil, informed the OIE that a table-top and field simulation exercise on classical swine fever will take place in the towns of Porto Alegre y Aratiba in the State of Rio Grande do Sul, from 4 to 6 June 2013(table-top) and from 10 to 14 June 2013 (field).

Veterinarians and technical auxiliaries as well as representatives of the official Federal and State departments will participate in this simulation exercise.

The exercise will involve:

  • activities related to surveillance, tracing outbreaks, disease emergency, crisis management, cleaning and disinfection.
  • field activities that will consist in the necropsy and the collection of biological samples to confirm the laboratory diagnosis.


This procedure is part of the continuous training process of the State technicians for the Animal health emergency plan against classical swine fever as well as the compliance with the guidelines stated in the National Swine Health Programme.
