Simulation exercise: Classical swine fever in Nicaragua

Dr Mauricio Pichardo Ramirez, Director of Animal Health, Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Forestry of Nicaragua, Managua, informed the OIE that a simulation exercise on classical swine fever will take place from 27 to 30 June 2011 in the different cities of Managua county such as San Rafael del Sur, Villa El Carmen y El Crucero.

The aim of this  simulation exercise, conducted by the Animal Health Department with the support of OIRSA(*) and PREFIP III (**), is to:

  •  reinforce epidemiological surveillance, control, containment and eradication measures in case of a possible outbreak of classical swine fever or other important economic disease in any part of the national territory,
  •  improve the preparedness and capacity of response to an emerging disease.


60 professionals will take part in this simulation exercise, including veterinarians from the departments of epidemiological surveillance and quarantine, swine breeders and slaughterhouse personnel.
