Simulation Exercise: Foot and mouth disease (FMD) in Bolivia

Dr Rubens Robles Saucedo, Director General, National Service of Animal and Plant Health and Food Safety (SENASAG), Ministry of Rural Development and Land, Trinidad, Bolivia, informed the OIE that a field simulation exercise on FMD will take place in the Municipalities of Oruro, Caracollo and Challapata, Oruro Department, located in the altiplano region, from 28 November to 2 December 2011.

This exercise is part of the Action Plan included in the Hemispheric Programme for the Eradication of FMD (PHEFA).  The objectives  of this simulation exercise will focus on the evaluation of the component capacities of the National Programme for the Eradication of FMD (PRONEFA) in case of an emergency response; enforcing in this respect the specific contingency plan for FMD within the framework of the National Animal Health Emergency System of Bolivia (SINAEZ). The exercise will include the investigation, warning and emergency phases of the mentioned Action Plan (table-top, field).

Will participate to this exercise veterinarians from the SENASAG in charge of the Altiplano and the Valleys region; regional and national authorities, livestock sector representatives in the region; public forces; representatives of official animal health institutions of the region such as PANAFTOSA, CVP, USDA-APHIS and FAO, this latter within the framework of the development of the progressive FAO/OIE control of the FMD project.
