Simulation exercise: Foot and mouth disease in Belize

15 to 17 September

Dr Miguel Angel Depaz, Director of Animal Health, Belize Agricultural Health Authority (BAHA), Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, informed the OIE that a field simulation exercise on foot and mouth disease (FMD) will take place on 15 to 17 September 2014 in Central Farm, Cayo District, Belize.

The objectives of this simulation exercise code-named “Exercise Baymen’s Clan” are to:

  1.  assess the revised 2014 FMD Emergency Plan
  2.  assess and strengthen BAHA’s management capacities of implementing and coordinating an adequate and efficient response.


Exercise “Baymen’s Clan” will be conducted with the support of the Inter-American Development Bank, PAHO*/PANAFTOSA** and the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO). Participants include officers from government, representatives of the industry and donor agencies.
