Simulation exercise: Foot and mouth disease in Bolivia

Dr Javier Ernesto Suárez Hurtado, National Head for Animal Health, National Service for Animal and Plant Health and Food Safety (SENASAG), Ministry of Rural Development and Lands of Bolivia, informed the OIE that a simulation exercise on foot and mouth disease (FMD) will take place in municipalities of the Province of Cercado in the Department of Beni, located in the Amazonian Region of Bolivia, from 24 to 29 November 2013.

The objectives of this simulation exercise are focused on the evaluation of the capacities of the components from the National Program for the Eradication of FMD (PRONEFA) regarding the response when facing animal health emergencies. In this respect, a specific contingency plan for FMD will be enforced. The simulation exercise will include the phases of investigation, alert and emergency from the above mentioned Plan.

Will participate to this exercise veterinarians from SENASAG, municipal authorities, governmental veterinarian services, the livestock sector from the region and public forces. Are invited as observers the representatives of counterpart services and institutions related to animal health in the region such as CVP, PANAFTOSA Center, IICA, USDA-APHIS and FAO.
