30 March to 3 April

Dr Geraldo Marcos De Moraes, Director of the Department of Animal Health, Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply of Brazil, informed the OIE that a table-top and field simulation exercise on a foot and mouth disease emergency will take place in the municipality of Caetanópolis, State of Minas Gerais, from 30 March to 3 April 2020.

The objective of the exercise is to practice and test the early response capacity as well as the management and organisation of the Official Veterinary Services during an investigation about a suspicion of vesicular disease in the FMD free zone where vaccination is practised, following the guidelines of the Contingency Plan for Foot and Mouth Disease.

The simulation exercise will allow the review of theory and practical training for official veterinarians at States and Federal level,  regarding aspects related to diagnostic, collection of samples, epidemiological investigation, traceability, biosafety as well as procedures and strategies of containment and eradication of foot and mouth disease.
