Simulation exercise: Foot and mouth disease in Kazakhstan

Dr Samat Tyulegenov, Director General of RSE "National Reference Center for Veterinary", Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan, informed the OIE that a field simulation exercise on foot and mouth disease (FMD) will take place in the village of Kievka, Nura District, region of Karaganda in Kazakhstan from 5 to 9 September 2016.

The objective of this simulation exercise is to strengthen management capacities of the adequate and efficient response to a FMD occurrence with a view to reducing the economic health impacts that could be generated from the introduction of the virus.

The field activities were designed based on a scenario allowing the practice of emergency response and the roles and functions of the different levels of command in the Veterinary Services and other institutions.

The simulation exercise is directed to professionals of the public and private services.
