Simulation exercise: Foot and mouth disease in New Zealand-4

7 to 8 May

Dr Matthew Stone, Director Animal and Animal Products, Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) of New Zealand, Wellington, informed the OIE that a simulation exercise on Foot and Mouth disease will take place from 7 to 8 May 2014 in Auckland, New Zealand.

This simulation exercise is part of New Zealand’s National Response Training.

Members of the National Biosecurity Capability Network (NBCN) will participate to this exercise. Members include staff from regional councils, AsureQuality, the Ministry for Primary Industries and private companies.

The scenario used will be FMD-based and located in the Taranaki and Waikato regions. This will be a table top internal exercise. The purpose is to test systems for:

  •  writing Situation Reports and other management reports,
  •  working through the problem solving process,
  •  planning as a group,
  •  other response management roles.
