Simulation exercise: Foot and mouth disease in the Former Yug. Republic of Macedonia

Mr Zoran Atanasov, Director of Food and Veterinary Agency, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Economy of the Former Yug. Republic of Macedonia, informed the OIE that a simulation exercise on foot and mouth disease (FMD) is taking place from 3 to 6 December 2018 in the municipality of Strumica, Macedonia. This simulation exercise has been jointly organized between the Food and Veterinary Agency (FVA) and the European Commission for the control of FMD (EuFMD).

The aim of this simulation exercise is to:

  • strengthen the capacities of the FVA for FMD,
  • support the development of an emergency response preparedness of the country for FMD,
  • test the national FMD contingency Plan.

The exercise will consist of drills on farm covering practical skills required during investigation of a suspicion of FMD on farm and a desktop exercise covering culling and disposal of animals.
