Simulation exercise: Foot and mouth disease in the United States of America – Mexico

Dr. Peter Fernández, official delegate of the United States of America (USA) to the OIE, has informed us a simulation exercise on a hypothetical foot and mouth disease outbreak will take place along the border between the USA and Mexico from 20 May to 23 May 2003.

The simulation exercise, which is being called "Amistad", will involve both State and Federal officials on both sides of the border. The hypothetical affected areas will be the State of Texas on the American side, and the State of Coahuila on the Mexican side.

The exercise is designed to enhance communication and other interactions between State and Federal governments involved in emergency response operations on both sides of the border.
