Simulation exercise: Foot and mouth disease in Turkey-6

24 to 28 April - 17 to 21 July (Kars exercise in July postponed)

Dr Nihat Pakdil, Deputy Undersecretary, Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock of Turkey, informed the OIE that a joint real-scale simulation exercise on foot and mouth disease (FMD) will take place in the Province of Diyarbakir from 24 to 28 April 2017 and in the Province of Kars from 17 to 21 July 2017.

The overall aim of this exercise is to maintain the response skills of the Veterinary services and to revise plans of disease free status. The simulation exercise will include table-top and field exercises.

The specific objectives are to:

  • test the Foot and Mouth Contingency Plan and train staff on its implementation;
  • test operational response arrangements;
  • examine the liaison and interdependencies between the key operational partners.
