Dr. Rosemary Sifford, United States Chief Veterinary Officer, informed the OIE that a national simulation exercise on foot-and-mouth disease will take place the week of November 15, 2021.

This exercise is a Functional Exercise, planned for four days with varied participation from federal, state, and industry representatives. Eleven states and one territory will play in the exercise: Alabama (AL), Florida (FL), Georgia (GA), Kentucky (KY), Louisiana, (LA), Mississippi (MS), Oklahoma (OK), South Carolina (SC), Texas (TX), Virginia (VA), West Virginia (WV), and Puerto Rico (PR). Exercise play is limited to the interactions between participating functional entities, federal, state and county jurisdictions, industry, and the Simulation Cell (SimCell).

Primary objectives include communication, development of incident action plans and herd plans, implementation of secure food supply plans, and demonstrating the capability to identify and manage resources, particularly those that may be shared among states.
