Simulation exercise: Foreign animal disease in Canada-2

3 to 4 October 2012

Dr. Brian Evans, Chief Veterinary Officer (CVO), Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), Ottawa, Canada, informs the OIE that a simulation exercise on a foreign animal disease will take place in Edmonton, province of Alberta, from 3 to 4 October 2012.

The exercise is jointly organized and hosted by Alberta’s Agriculture and Rural Development (AARD) Department and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), with participants from both organizations.

The Exercise will focus on biocontainment, occupational safety and health (OSH), and poultry destruction procedures. No animals will be involved. It will provide an opportunity to strengthen both internal and external surge capacity for CFIA and AARD, to provide some face-to-face training of Canadian Veterinary Reservists and to test aspects of a draft CFIA National Deployment Plan.
