Simulation exercise: Highly pathogenic avian influenza in Guatemala

Dr Miguel Angel Azañon Robles, Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food of Guatemala (MAGA), informed the OIE that a field simulation exercise on highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N1 in poultry will take place from 26 to 28 August 2014 in the municipality of San Benito, Department of Peten.

This exercise will be conducted with the support of USDA/APHIS*. Members of the Poultry Health Programme, Members of the National Health Emergency Commission of the National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (CONRED*), the Ministry of Public Health and Welfare, the academic sector, the Poultry Producers ‘Association, the local Authorities, etc. will participate to this exercise.

The main objective is to evaluate the capacity of the adequate response in front of a HPAI occurrence and review the efficiency of plans and procedures for the control of the disease.
