Simulation exercise: Highly pathogenic avian influenza in Jamaica

Dr Osbil Watson, Director of Veterinary Services Division of the Ministry of Agriculture and Lands, Jamaica, informed the OIE that his country conducted a seminar and simulation exercise on depopulation and disposal of poultry carcasses for highly pathogenic avian influenza, on 30 April and 1 May 2008.

The aim of this simulation exercise was to test the level of preparedness as outlined by the Emergency Animal Disease Preparedness Plan. This was done in collaboration with the United States Department of Agriculture, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (USDA/APHIS), the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation in Agriculture (IICA) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
