Simulation exercise: Highly pathogenic avian influenza in Singapore-5

10 January 2008

Dr Chua Sin Bin, Chief Veterinary Officer, Agri-food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) of Singapore, informed the OIE that his country has always been free from highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) and that it will test its emergency preparedness to respond to an outbreak of HPAI through a simulation exercise to be conducted on 10 January 2008.

“Exercise Gallus V” will test the AVA’s crisis management framework and standard operating procedures for its Emergency Operation Plan (EOP) to manage an incursion of HPAI.

Specifically, this exercise will test:

– the activation and recall processes for operational workforce;
– the biosafety protection and decontamination processes for personnel;
– AVA’s coordination with other governmental agencies.

“EX Gallus V” will be conducted at a pre-determined location in accordance with AVA’s plans for actual simulation of field activities.
