Simulation exercise: Highly pathogenic avian influenza in Singapore-8

Week of 20 February

Dr Him Hoo Yap, Director General and Chief Veterinary Officer, Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) of Singapore, informed the OIE that his country is free from highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) and it will test its emergency preparedness to respond to a HPAI outbreak through a simulation exercise named “Ex Gallus VIII”.

The simulation exercise will take place in the week of 20 February 2017 at a local poultry farm.

The objective of the exercise is to test the activation of and delivery by AVA’s logistics partner for an avian influenza outbreak scenario in a poultry farm.

Specifically, the exercise will test the effectiveness and efficiency of the logistics partner in:

a)    Setting up the temporary infrastructure required to support avian influenza operations in a poultry farm
b)    Delivering the essential supplies and services, including stockpiled items such as personal protective equipment
c)    Assisting personnel in the donning of personal protective equipment and decontamination.
