Simulation exercise: Infestation with Aethina tumida (Small hive beetle) in Dominican Republic
Dr Lissette Gómez Rodríguez, Director of Animal Health, General Directorate of Livestock (DIGEGA), Ministry of Agriculture of the Dominican Republic, informed the OIE that a simulation exercise on infestation with Aethina tumida (Small hive beetle) will take place in the province of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, from 23 to 25 July 2019.
The main purpose of the simulation exercise is to review the measures for prevention and control in case of small hive beetle outbreaks in order to prepare veterinary and phytosanitary services, beekeeping technicians, authorities and producers to the following activities:
– identification of the disease
– diagnosis in the field
– methodological integration of monitoring for early detection
– mechanisms of notification to the relevant authorities
– management measures for the prevention and control of outbreaks
This simulation will be carried out by the Animal Health Department of the General Livestock Directorate from the Ministry of Agriculture of the Dominican Republic, with the support of the International Regional Organization for Plant Protection and Animal Health (OIRSA) and the Institute of Protection and Agricultural Health (IPSA) from Nicaragua.
