Simulation exercise: White spot disease and emerging aquatic disease in Belize

Dr Miguel Angel Depaz, Director of Animal Health, Belize Agricultural Health Authority (BAHA), Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, informed the OIE that a field simulation exercise on white spot disease and an emerging aquatic disease [Acute hepatopancreatic necrosis disease (AHPND)] will take place on 23 October 2014 in the town of Placencia, Stann Creek District, Belize.

The objectives of exercise code-named “Cocoplum” are to:

  1. assess the OIRSA* APHND procedural manual to prepare a Belize manual;
  2. assess and strengthen BAHA’s coordinated first response to confirmation of emerging and exotic aquatic animal disease.

Exercise “Cocoplum” will be conducted with the support of the Inter-American Development Bank.

Participants will include officers from government and representatives of the industry.
